Experienced Birth + Postpartum Doula

Having served hundreds of families within the birthing and sacred postnatal space, Alyssa is currently practicing in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and surrounding areas in Florida. Alyssa’s roots in this work began in Boulder County and Denver, CO. Alyssa places emphasis on education to help the mind, body, and spirit prepare for one of the biggest transformations in one’s life - the birthing of a parent and child. Alyssa Megeath is a DONA International Certified Birth Doula, Certified Ayurvedic Medicine Prenatal and Postnatal Specialist, along with an Ayurvedic Medicine Practitioner Student. She prepares her clients on all things birth, the postnatal period, labor comfort measures, newborn care, and feeding. Alyssa is the only holistic birth and postpartum doula in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, Florida area with alternative medicine training, focusing on preparing for conception, pregnancy, and the postpartum window. She is one of two in all of Boulder County that are properly trained in Ayurvedic Medicine for the childrearing years. As of Winter 2021, Alyssa will be expanding her practice in the St. Augustine and Jacksonville, Florida area! She is really looking forward to be able to work both in Colorado (a state that has access to many diverse birth resources) and Florida (a state that has one of the highest cesarean rates in the U.S., which she hopes to help improve)!

Alyssa is studying to receive her Doctorate in Ayurvedic Medicine under a former practicing OB-GYN Physician and currently practicing Ayurvedic Medicine Doctor, Dr. Bharat Vaidya B.A.M.S, M.D. (E.U.) in Superior, CO at Ayurved Sadhana Vidyalaya. Within the medical field, she has worked in patient education and outcomes for almost a decade within hospitals in the East Coast and in Colorado. She has served families with newborn care and nannying services for over fifteen years. Alyssa has a B.A. in Biology with a concentration in pre-medicine from Regis College in Weston, MA. She is continuing her education with ongoing professional training within the birthing community and ties her studies of Ayurvedic Medicine (body care, daily routine, nutrition, and plant medicine) into the birthing and postnatal experience. She believes that Ayurveda, one of the oldest medical systems in existence, has the power to enhance every stage of Womanhood - menstruation, preconception, pregnancy, birth, the postnatal season along with menopause.

While working in an acupuncture clinic that has a strong focus on supporting women and families through the birthing experience (from preparing to get pregnant to postnatal care), Alyssa became passionate about working with expecting parents. During this time, she and her husband started their own family, and she had the opportunity to experience how she felt supported and also areas where improvement could be made. The experience has given her strong convictions on how to advocate for and educate all women and families through the birth process. Birth can be an incredibly empowering experience, and having a coach through the process can provide confidence, knowledge, and support.

Alyssa has many passions in her life. As an Ayurvedic Culinary Artist, Alyssa is usually preparing individualized, healing meals and herbal preparations when she is not in the birthing room. In addition to her strong involvement within the medical community, she has been an instructor within the rock climbing industry. Her knowledge of health and fitness allows her to offer expertise in nutrition and physical health to feel good during pregnancy, have energy for a great labor and delivery, and recover quickly during the postpartum time.

Unlike other doulas, Alyssa is the perfect blend of both Western (Allopathy) and Eastern Medicines. She will provide you with the current evidence-based information and education so that you can make the best, informed decisions for you and your family. Alyssa strongly believes that there should be a doula for every woman that wants one.

During Alyssa’s free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and son, rock climbing both indoors and outdoors. She is also an avid photographer. Alyssa loves helping people reach their full potential.
